The arctic may seem like a lifeless, frozen plot of land, however, during the summer it is buzzing with life. Many of the plants found in the arctic depend on insects for pollination. Surprisingly, the main pollinators of the arctic are small flies, similar to the common housefly. Here in the central valley our main pollinator would be a bee. Currently, due to climate change, arctic flies are disappearing at an alarming rate. This could be the result to an increasing confusion between flies and their flower resources. There are multiple types of flies who pollinate arctic plants, but they all work together to create an healthy ecosystem. I believe that it is important to ensure that these environments are kept stable. With the influence of climate change, it is important that we keep plants alive and well so that they can produce more oxygen so that we humans can breathe, we also want to make sure these plants do not go extinct because that would have a serious impact on our environment. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/09/160928083218.htm

Babies in prams accompanying older siblings on the school run are twice as likely to be exposed to harmful air pollution in the morning than in the afternoon, a new study has found. Based on this study it was found that the worst areas for infants to be exposed are bus stops and cross walks with traffic lights. The chemicals causing this would be ultra fine particulate matter (PM 2.5-10) which is essentially the pollution of the pavements when having lots of cars drive on them. Why does this subject matter? well a recent WHO reports say that 570,000 children under the age of 5, die every year from respiratory infections. Most in which are caused by either second hand smoke and air pollution. How do we fix this problem? maybe we should use less harmful chemicals when making the pavement for cars to drive on, as well as we could have different tires that cause less damage to the roads so the pavement doesn't loosen as easy. You are what you eat, is the saying most dietitians use when encouraging patients to make diet decisions to improve one's health. However, did you know that the way you eat has a direct correlation to the environment, believe it or not but one's unhealthy habits is a cause to climate change on our planet. Look at it this way healthier people, healthier planet. This article goes into depth on how the food system contributes about 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to this the article goes into depth on how the high consumption of red and processed meat with the combination of low levels of fruits and vegetables is the average diet among many American citizens. This diet being the leading cause in health problems/diseases among citizens of the US, which is a direct cause of the $3 trillion dollars being spent on health care each year.
